What Our Guinea Pigs Eat

In addition to our human menu, we also offer fresh vegetables and hay for our guinea pig residents. You can watch as they nibble on their tasty snacks and play in their designated areas.

Guinea pigs are herbivorous animals and require a diet that is high in fiber and vitamin C. Here are some foods that are safe and healthy for guinea pigs to eat:

Hay: Hay is the mainstay of a guinea pig’s diet. They require unlimited access to hay, as it provides essential fiber and keeps their digestive system healthy.
Fresh vegetables: Guinea pigs love fresh veggies, and they provide essential vitamins and minerals. Some good options include kale, spinach, parsley, romaine lettuce, carrots, bell peppers, and cucumbers.
Fresh fruits: Fruits are high in sugar and should be given as an occasional treat. Good options include apples, strawberries, blueberries, and bananas.
Pellets: Pellets formulated specifically for guinea pigs provide essential vitamins and minerals. However, they should not make up the majority of a guinea pig’s diet.
Water: Guinea pigs need access to fresh, clean water at all times.
It’s important to avoid feeding guinea pigs foods that are high in sugar, fat, or salt, such as chocolate, candy, and processed foods. Additionally, they should not be fed any foods that are toxic to them, such as avocado, onion, and garlic.
