My Short-Term Goals

In summary, my short-term goal is to get a full-time job in the graphic design field directly after my stage as I will be available to work full-time starting the summer and on. Once I complete my program at John Abbott College, my plan is to relocate either to downtown Montreal or somewhere closer to the city, as I live off-island right now.

Currently, I work part-time at Maxi while attending school, and full-time while I’m off school but I aspire to replace that with a full-time graphic design job upon graduating from the program. My aim is to be fully dedicated to gaining as much experience as possible in the graphic design field, so that’s why I would like to work full-time once I am out of school. I would like as much hands-on experience as possible and I am hoping that my stage can provide me with that experience. The primary goal of my stage is to have a meaningful experience that helps me work with my practical skills and enables me to apply the knowledge acquired during my graphic design coursework to real-world scenarios.

Once I finish my 3 weeks at my stage I’m hoping to either get hired if I’m a good fit for the company or to find a graphic design job that can best suit me and my long-term goals in the graphic design field. To summarize, my short-term goals currently revolve around finding a stage that suits me and that will help me in my search in landing a job to kickstart my career in graphic design. I would hope to find a job that aligns with my aspirations or as this is a blog post about short-term goals I would like to find a job after my stage that can lead to a job that would be able to do that if I don’t find it right away.

My Long-Term Goals

In 5 years I see myself working in a graphic design job that I love that contributes positively to my life and also to other people’s lives. I see myself working for myself in the future but I would like to work for companies to start off to see if it’s something I would like to pursue and also I would like to gain experience and make new connections in the field.

I don’t exactly know for sure yet which field of graphic design I would like to work in but I know for sure that I do highly enjoy creating illustrations and creating work that positively impacts people. I know that I want to make a difference in the world somehow whether it’s through bettering people’s mental health or making people feel less alone in the world. I want to be able to explore the job fields and see which one best suits me and my lifestyle in the future. I am open to exploring that and having many opportunities to try new things and to challenge myself.

I am a big video game lover so it would be pretty cool to be able to do graphic design work in the video game field and help bring the game to the next level. I also know that in the future I might want to start my own company and provide graphic design services to anybody who needs them so that I can work on my own time and from home and get to choose my own career path. Illustrating and animating has been my passion for the longest I can remember and it would also be nice to have a job that incorporates that or even a job on the side from my own company that I can do while working at another graphic design job.

2024 Vernissage

2024 Vernissage

The vernissage will take place from 5pm-7pm on April 10th 2024 in the agora at John Abbott College. I will be showcasing my work that I’ve created throughout the 3 years studying in graphic and web design. There will be prints of my work such as posters, packaging, UI/UX design and many more. There will be other people showcasing their work too so you can come and view everybody’s work. There will also be wine and cheese for everybody to enjoy and people will be giving away free stuff that they’ve created.I’ve worked really hard on all my projects to give the best quality work and I’m hoping that everybody will enjoy viewing my work and I can’t wait to talk about it. My favourite projects would have to be a Branding project for a fictional cafe called “Adorable cafe”. I also enjoyed creating posters for a singer called NF and Billie Eilish that I enjoyed creating using Adobe Photoshop. I would love to hear feedback from people who are viewing my work so don’t by shy to come and talk to me.

The vernissage will be advertised on social media such as Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest and you can check them out on my social media accounts @samanthabrnds.designs where I also have posted my other graphic design work.I’ve worked all semester in my marketing class to advertise the vernissage and I’ve created a poster for it that you’ll be able to see at the vernissage. All of my classmates who are there have also created a poster for the vernissage so you’ll be able to see the different variations of it.

I hope for this event to be fun for all and that everybody will have a great time seeing everybody’s booths and artwork. It’s a great event to meet new graphic designers.
